Event Details

Join Keeping It Wild for beginner camping at Fort Mountain State Park.  We will be camping at the pioneer camp site.  The site is considered "primitive" and "rugged" by Georgia State Parks because there is no water or electricity, but the site does have an outhouse and it is only 520 feet from the parking area.

Activities include: beginner camping instruction, hiking, bug safari, camp fire with smores, owl prowl, and more.

We will show you how to put up a tent, start a fire, use the camp stove and more.

Campers need to bring all meals.  We will provide further guidance and tips as the date gets closer.

REI will provide sleeping bags, pads, and headlamps for individuals, tents for individuals or families, and campstoves for the group to share.  When you register, please indicate the equipment you need.

For more information about Fort Mountain State Park, including a map and photos of the park, please visit http://www.gastateparks.org/FortMountain.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY:

On September 29, 2011 at 6 pm at REI, 1800 Northeast Expy NE, Atlanta, join REI and Keeping It Wild for a demonstration of camping equipment for beginner campers.  You will receive tips about what to bring on the camping trip and have an opportunity to meet your fellow campers!

If you have any concerns or questions, please call Amy Tidwell at 678-231-7484.
